The unit on Four Star Pizza, Washington Street, Cork is our longest running unit and is now running the newest hardware and software as well as using 3G modems from Vodafone for the link back to the internet. This means that we can keep and eye on the unit, monitor the successful media transfers, and upload new content. While the client site does have Ethernet, it is quite an awkward process to get on their (or any client's) network as it brings up all sorts of security concerns. This is specially true of Wifi connections. I find now that it is easier to use 3G. It allows me to go to the client and have the unit installed in 5 minutes. I do have to pay for the Vodafone service but it is only about 10 Euro per month and that is much better that having to drive to a client site, run networking cable in roof spaces, etc.
The other advantage is that the units will update themselves as required. They dial in every hour to check for new content, so at the start of February, I set up a new campaign on the website and a few hours later the content was being delivered to customers.
